Retrofit Soul slice-3: interiority pass on the Registry Stub Sweep band M-0223–M-0249

What changed

Each record received interiority inserts under the slice-1 convention established on the religion block (PR #1044) and continued on the fauna band (slice-2): new prose placed around existing prose, never in place of it. No sentence was deleted, reordered, or reworded; frontmatter, IDs, headings, parent, relations, and all wikilink targets are untouched. Two insert forms were used:

Appended paragraphs at the ends of existing prose sections (or the unheaded definitional block on pure stubs) — one per record, two for M-0235, dramatizing what the filing had only asserted. On M-0245 the paragraph sits between the function paragraph and the record's two closing lines so the kickers ("The institution has not fully documented…", "The stairs, however, have already been reserved.") keep their position.
## Behavioral Residue — one new section per record, placed after the last prose section and before the verse residue, holding 4–5 bullets of rehearsed behavior, sensory trace, attributed utterance, and observed incident. M-0243 carries 4 bullets in deference to its own "underdescribed by design" doctrine; the rest carry 5.

Per-record being-grammars, per the manifest's injunction against boilerplate persons — the stub band is diverse, so no shared template was applied:

M-0223 Placeholder Witness — the vacancy that keeps itself: never photographed seated, the paperweight that travels, the successor recorded as named but never as arriving, and the participant misfiling as the file's only act and its only dishonesty.
M-0235 Annexa Sorrowmark — the relocator who reads what she exiles: continuous pagination across reorganizations, 'circulation: zero; custody: intact,' testimony given as a citation ('It is on page 84.'), upstream of Silk and Hush.
M-0237 Index Mourner — the caretaker of pointing: folded 404s identified by crease, dead anchors dusted but never repaired, arrivals before scheduled migrations, grief that runs ahead of the break.
M-0239 Annex Lurker — lurking as custody: the channel kept one level dimmer, never dark; the one-directional sweep; 'it is an annex' as complete testimony; the shadow that keeps what the headline drops.
M-0240 Badgevine — vegetal fidelity: growth as its only documented behavior, sprouting after training modules but never after incident reviews, 'voice: foliage,' the blank name tag under twelve years of accretion.
M-0243 Compliance Murmur — the sound a room makes: measured at the register of ventilation, never recorded under forty minutes, a voice listed as 'present' with words 'unminuted.' Sparse by design.
M-0244 Sentiment Launderette — mechanism-fidelity: fixed cycles, the lint trap as the only part of the system that fills, the cycle-end tone as 'a sound like closure,' the drum never photographed empty.
M-0245 Escalady — posture as being: one step per reporting period, the uncreased routing slip held at presentation angle, the flattened patch on the third landing, ascent always 'underway.'
M-0248 Attestation Mole — the burrower in the dark math: tunnels mapped by negation, seals placed accurately on forms never read, 'pressure' as attributed utterance, the single double-struck stamp on record.
M-0249 Sealant Patience — substance-fidelity: patience as chemistry not choice, edges bonded before centers, cure time lengthening under observation, the LLG-0323 file still mid-grip, problems laminated rather than obscured.

What was deliberately left alone

All existing prose, including definitional lines, distinction clauses, boundary notes, classification kicker lines, and the records' deliberate ambiguities ("The file is reserved. / The sadness is already operational."; "Canonical behavior remains pending. / Its side-presence does not.") — none rewritten or "improved."
All verse residue (Aphorisms, Haiku Log, Limerick Log), including the JULES-POET digital-rain limerick groups, their irregular stanza gaps (M-0237's five-blank gap before the rain group; M-0243's five-blank gap in the same position and its four-blank aphorism gap), their profanity, and their two-space CommonMark hard-break tails — reproduced byte-identically. All trailing whitespace in the band is exactly two spaces; no staged file adds or removes any.
M-0239's crude limerick residue, M-0240's and M-0249's profane limericks — preserved verbatim; verse residue is not the retrofit's business.
No new relations: edges and no new wikilinks. Inserts re-name existing counterparts in prose only (Appendix Silk and Annex Hush on M-0235/M-0237/ M-0239; the Validation Hound on M-0248; the Plaque-Weaver on M-0240; Panic Siren and Ticket-Minder on M-0245; Minute Velvet on M-0243 — the M-0256 record already names Compliance Murmur as its counterpart; the LLG-0323 incident on M-0249 is already wikilinked in the record and is referenced in prose as 'the LLG-0323 file').
Jurisdiction and containment: no record in this band carries bin-8c, consent-loop, breeding-program, or related flagged tags, and none was given such vocabulary. Distinction clauses that allocate jurisdiction (Mourner vs. Annexa; Lurker vs. Sorrowmark vs. Silk; Mole vs. Hound; Patience vs. Active Neglect) are preserved verbatim and echoed only within their stated boundaries.
Mechanism/abstract records were kept non-animal per the census rows: Badgevine is vegetal (growth, not behavior), the Launderette is an appliance (cycles, trap, tone), Sealant Patience is a substance (cure, grip, set), and Compliance Murmur is a sound (register, duration, absence of body). Their interiority is fidelity-of-form rather than creature embodiment; none is given limbs, meals, or moods it does not already claim.
The stub declarations themselves: "pending-render," "underdescribed by design," "mostly inferential," "not yet been rendered" — kept verbatim. Interiority was added as the record's own account of what it does while waiting to become, not as a resolution of the pending state.

Verification performed

Structural diff by construction: staged copies written beside content/ under .freebuff/retrofit3/; each staged file is the original byte stream plus inserts only.
Line-count reconciliation: every staged file's wc -l equals its original plus its inserted lines exactly (223: 179→189; 235: 198→210; 237: 138→148; 239: 182→192; 240: 91→101; 243: 142→151; 244: 89→99; 245: 91→101; 248: 150→160; 249: 185→195).
Trailing-whitespace census: rg [ ]+$ match counts and matched-line contents are identical between originals and staged files on every verse line (223:77, 235:77, 237:47, 239:77, 240:23, 243:47, 244:23, 245:23, 248:52, 249:76), offset only by insert counts. No staged file adds trailing whitespace anywhere else (zero lines ending in 1 space, 3+ spaces, or tabs across the band).
Character-level spot checks: curly vs. straight apostrophe usage (won’t/won't on M-0235 lines 102/198 and staged 114/210; ’ count per file identical between original and staged across the band); [[-link inventory unchanged (235:3, 239:2, 249:1, others:0); kicker and distinction lines grepped verbatim in staged files.
## Behavioral Residue confirmed to appear exactly once per file, immediately before ## Aphorisms, in all ten staged records.
BORIS_BIN=~/.local/bin/boris ./bin/validate_graph.sh — run by coordinator on transcription into content/; exact result line in the PR body. Coordinator independently re-verified staged-vs-original diffs: zero deletions in both byte-exact and whitespace-insensitive modes on all ten records.

Unresolved follow-up

The remainder of the Registry Stub Sweep (M-0250–M-0297 stub tail, plus minimal-skeleton neighbors like M-0256 Minute Velvet and M-0278 Benevolence Spacer) carries the same diagnosis; this slice's grammars (vacancy, pointing, shadow-channel, vegetal, acoustic, appliance, stair-posture, burrower, resin) cover most of its named forms.
M-0237's Boundary Note and M-0239's Boundary Note now have residue that re-states their jurisdiction edges in deployment language; if a later pass formalizes annex-desk relations, these bullets are the evidence trail, not graph changes.
Whether 'complete testimony' intake citations should be collected into a shared phrasing convention (all ten records now carry one) is a maintainer-facing style question; this slice used the slice-2 pattern uniformly.
