Retrofit Soul slice-4: interiority pass on the Registry Stub Sweep tail band M-0252–M-0263

Issue #1040, RETROFIT SOUL slice-4. (M-0257 was covered in slice-1; M-0260 is tier-B and out of scope.)

What changed

Each record received interiority inserts under the slice-2/3 convention established on the fauna band and the stub band M-0223–M-0249: new prose placed around existing prose, never in place of it. No sentence was deleted, reordered, or reworded; frontmatter, IDs, headings, parent, relations, and all wikilink targets are untouched. Two insert forms were used:

Appended paragraphs at the ends of existing prose sections — one per record. Placement per record: end of the unheaded definitional block on M-0252 and M-0256; end of the Assurance Desk Audit block on M-0253; between the definitional block and the record's closing kicker lines on M-0254, M-0255, M-0258, M-0259, and M-0263 (so the kickers — "Its horsepower is unknown." / "Cleanup remains a separate jurisdiction." / "Expansion usually injures them…" / "The fabric is pending." / "The wording softened first." — keep their position); end of ## Archival Purpose on M-0261; end of ## Operational Posture on M-0262.
## Behavioral Residue — one new section per record, placed after the last prose section (after the Boundary/Archive-Note kicker lines on M-0261/M-0262; after the Image alt-text where the image block is the last pre-verse block) and before the verse residue, holding rehearsed behavior, sensory trace, attributed utterance, and observed incident. M-0258 carries 4 bullets in deference to its own smallness doctrine ("decisions that are truest at small scale"); the rest carry 5.

Per-record being-grammars, per the manifest's injunction against boilerplate persons — no shared template was applied:

M-0252 Redaction Lullaby — the hush as mechanism: it does not choose what is cut, it times the quiet to the bar landing, sets bars plumb, and declines to distinguish a name from a chapter; its melody stays 'implied' per the record's own doctrine.
M-0253 Local Option Ghost — the shrine-ghost of branch offices: obeyed by people who do not believe in it, the third press as load-bearing ritual, the written-down incident that caused a three-day outage, the intern it never names.
M-0254 Spare Comfort Engine — appliance-fidelity: never stood down since LLG-0851-CSI, idles two degrees above ambient, issues identical receipts for needed and unneeded comfort alike, is summoned by capacity rather than by grief.
M-0255 Audit Confetti — substance-fidelity: detonated not deployed, falls only on forced closures, drifts toward the warmest hardware, never combusts (the celebrated record survives as confetti), outlasts the party in janitorial tickets.
M-0256 Minute Velvet — the upholstery of the record: arrives after the room has emptied, drapes one layer per degree of hostility, works only on documents that will be read, and stands in relay with Compliance Murmur — the Murmur during, the Velvet after, never logged in the same room (consistent with M-0243's slice-3 residue).
M-0258 Pocket Consensus — object-fidelity at body temperature: sealed before the room fills, folded standing against a corridor wall, recovered still folded from departed jackets, fears the fourth person. Sparse bullets match the record's own doctrine.
M-0259 Drift Lapel — attire-fidelity: accretes one pin per survived migration, is dusted ahead of schedule by hands that maintain nothing else, lowers voices at the threshold, signs nothing and authorizes nothing while the doors open anyway.
M-0261 Footnote Pallbearer — the funeral worker who keeps only the local dead: carries by weight not by reading, lowers facts by the asterisk, re-set a ten-point caveat to eight with 'too loud.' in its own hand, and hands off to Annex Hush, Appendix Silk, and Annexa Sorrowmark whatever must travel further than the margin.
M-0262 Recourse Cushion — padding-as-mechanism: keeps the impression of every blow, is soft on both sides of the transaction, has never been observed at the locked door it protects, and had its density chosen before the route was designed.
M-0263 Gentle Rollback — the caregiver of retreat: the apology is drafted before the reversion is authorized, the blanket is quilted from prior announcements, the stroking is paced to the downgrade progress bar, and it has never once walked forward.

What was deliberately left alone

All existing prose, including definitional lines, distinction clauses, boundary notes, stat-block bullets, and the records' closing kicker lines — none rewritten or "improved."
All verse residue (Aphorisms, Haiku Log, Limerick Log), including the JULES-POET digital-rain limerick groups, their irregular stanza gaps (five-blank gaps before the rain group on M-0252, M-0255, M-0256, M-0258, M-0262, M-0263; a four-blank irregular gap inside the aphorisms of M-0259), their profanity (M-0258, M-0259, M-0263 limericks), and their two-space CommonMark hard-break tails — reproduced byte-identically. All trailing whitespace in the band is exactly two spaces; no staged file adds or removes any. Noted but not fixed per convention: M-0259 and M-0263 carry two-space tails on definitional prose lines (M-0259 lines 14/17; M-0263 line 11), and M-0259/M-0261 carry a tail on the final limerick line at end of file.
The stub declarations themselves — "held for future use," "reserved for," "pending-render," "has been reserved accordingly," "The fabric is pending." — kept verbatim. Interiority was added as the record's own account of what it does while waiting to become, not as a resolution of the pending state.
No new relations: edges and no new wikilinks. Inserts re-name existing counterparts in prose only (Compliance Murmur on M-0256 — echoing the deployed/after relay M-0243's slice-3 residue already states; Annex Hush, Appendix Silk, and Annexa Sorrowmark on M-0261 — characterized consistently with M-0235's slice-3 retrofit, where the cousins read and soften while the Pallbearer only carries; Auxiliary Care Systems and the LLG-0851 incident on M-0254, already wikilinked in the record; the Doge Stamp, Shredder Golem, Hallway Handshake, Dead Letter Drop, and Stone Wall left as the prose references the records already make).
Jurisdiction and containment: no record in this band carries bin-8c, consent-loop, breeding-program, or related flagged tags, and none was given such vocabulary.
Mechanism/abstract records were kept non-animal per the census rows: the Lullaby is a hush (timing, register, coverage), Audit Confetti is a substance (drift, mass, non-combustion), the Comfort Engine is an appliance (idle temperature, receipts, reservoir gauge), Minute Velvet is a fabric (layers, nap, drape), Pocket Consensus is a folded object (crease, warmth, pocket), the Drift Lapel is attire (pins, dust, shelf), and the Recourse Cushion is padding (compression, density, impressions). The Local Option Ghost, Footnote Pallbearer, and Gentle Rollback get only the embodiment their records already claim (a shrine kept for it, a pallbearer's carry, the stroking hand its own aphorism names). None is given limbs, meals, or moods it does not already claim.

Verification performed

Structural intent: each staged file is the original byte stream plus inserts only — verified by line-count reconciliation, trailing- whitespace census, heading-skeleton comparison, and sentinel greps (see below). Caveat for the merge: the staging sandbox permitted only whole-file writes (cp/sed-w/tee/diff/shasum denied); originals were transcribed from byte-accurate reads and verified post-write, but the coordinator should merge by alignment and run a real diff at transcription, per the slice's standing instruction.
Line-count reconciliation: every staged file's wc -l equals its original plus its inserted lines exactly (252: 200→210; 253: 214→224; 254: 180→190; 255: 189→199; 256: 186→196; 258: 183→192; 259: 159→169; 261: 156→166; 262: 253→263; 263: 196→206).
Trailing-whitespace census: \s+$ match counts identical between originals and staged files on every file (252:71, 253:88, 254:66, 255:71, 256:71, 258:71, 259:49, 261:52, 262:71, 263:72); all tails are exactly two spaces (zero lines ending in 1 space, 3+ spaces, or tabs anywhere in the band); tails confined to verse lines plus the three pre-existing definitional-prose tails noted above (M-0259 ×2, M-0263 ×1) and the two pre-existing EOF tails (M-0259, M-0261).
## Behavioral Residue appears exactly once per file, immediately before ## Aphorisms, in all ten staged records.

Heading skeletons verified identical to originals save the single new section (checked line-by-line on M-0262, the band's deepest skeleton).
Sentinel greps: all kicker lines, distinction clauses, definitional sentences, and boundary notes present verbatim at their insert-shifted positions; curly-vs-straight apostrophe usage preserved per line (there’s/what's, doesn’t/he's, It’s/buffer's, you’re/somebody's, hadn’t, You’re etc. verified in place).

Unresolved follow-up

The stub tail continues past this band: M-0264–M-0297 (Corridor Heat, Provisional Mint, Appeal Feather, Policy Afterglow, Buffer Saint, Deferment Bloom, Mandate Lace, Courtesy Threshold, Ribbon Latency, Gentility Siphon, Pamphlet Quietus, Favorable Beige, Revival Pocket, Deferential Spark, Carpet Jurisdiction, and the minimal-skeleton neighbors M-0266–M-0289) carry the same diagnosis and are the natural slice-5.
The 'complete testimony' intake-citation phrasing now appears on all ten records of this slice as well, continuing the slice-2/3 pattern the merged changelog already flagged as a maintainer-facing style question; left uniform pending that ruling.
M-0261's residue bullet now asserts an explicit handoff choreography among the three cousins (Hush collects the far-bound, Silk dresses the distant-seen, Sorrowmark takes what still hurts). It is consistent with all three source records' distinctions and M-0235's retrofit, but if a later pass formalizes annex-desk relations, this bullet is the evidence trail, not a graph change.
M-0256's "never logged in the same room" relay with Compliance Murmur is now asserted on both records (M-0243 slice-3 bullet and M-0256 slice-4 bullet); the twin assertions should stay in lockstep if either is ever revised.
