Retrofit Soul slice-7: interiority pass on the stub-tail band M-0284–M-0295

Scope: content/mascots/284.consent-murmur.md,
285.pamphlet-quietus.md, 286.favorable-beige.md,
287.revival-pocket.md, 288.deferential-spark.md,
289.recital-of-sufficiency.md, 291.witness-felt.md,
292.kind-overdraft.md, 293.carpet-jurisdiction.md,
295.sanctioned-quilt.md — ten tier-A records, the last of
the M-0284–M-0295 band called out in slice-6's unresolved
follow-up (M-0290 Hover Parish excluded: it sits on the §7
priority list at #7 and carries the religion-adjacent
parish naming flagged for its own workload). Issue #1040,
RETROFIT SOUL slice-7. The band contains one flagged
jurisdiction: M-0284 Consent Murmur (consent-adjacent tag
field). Its restraint reasoning is documented below.
What changed
Each record received interiority inserts under the
slice-2/3/4/5/6 convention: new prose placed around
existing prose, never in place of it. No sentence was
deleted, reordered, or reworded; frontmatter, IDs,
headings, parent, relations, status, and all
wikilink targets are untouched. Two insert forms were
used:
- Appended paragraphs — one per record on the seven
stub members, two on the three full spec-sheet records
(M-0289, M-0291, M-0292) per the M-0235/M-0275/M-0283
spec-sheet precedent. Placement per record: between the
Distinction clause and the record's closing observation
on M-0284 (so "Where records remain thin, it tends to
grow louder in hindsight." keeps its terminal position);
end of the definitional block on M-0285 and M-0286; end
of the Resurrection-Node distinction paragraph on
M-0287; between the Distinction clause and the closing
kicker couplets on M-0288, M-0293, and M-0295 (so
"Sometimes that keeps them alive. / Sometimes it
keeps them decorative.", "No bylaw currently admits
this. / Several rooms do.", and "Its warmth is
genuine. / Its coverage map is not accidental." keep
their terminal positions); ends of
## Operational Postureand## Institutional Habitaton M-0289, M-0291, and M-0292. ## Behavioral Residue— one new section per record, placed after the last prose block (after the Image alt-text on M-0284, M-0285, M-0286, M-0287, M-0288, M-0293, M-0295; after## Recognizable Phraseson M-0289 and M-0291; after## Archive Noteon M-0292) and immediately before the verse residue, holding rehearsed behavior, sensory trace, attributed utterance, observed incident, and boundary assertions. Nine records carry 5 bullets; M-0284 carries 4 per the M-0258 sparseness precedent — see the restraint note below.
Per-record being-grammars, per the manifest's injunction against boilerplate persons — no shared template was applied:
- M-0284 Consent Murmur — acoustic-citation fidelity: a sound that is cited, never a signer. See the restraint note below.
- M-0285 Pamphlet Quietus — print-run fidelity: it is the distributed object (folded, stocked, pocket-creased), arriving pre-printed to incidents it cannot fix; the distribution is the resolution, and it never stays for the questions it answers.
- M-0286 Favorable Beige — pigment fidelity: a maintained matte field whose stillness is labor — the record's "constant computational effort" dramatized as repainting before each audit, itemized rejected tones beneath each approved swatch; it declines to display, it does not erase (Apathetic Gray and Sanitized White hold their own files).
- M-0287 Revival Pocket — perimeter fidelity: a cordoned zone, not a creature; the tape goes down while the anomaly still breathes, the boundary is measured against the adjacent dead zone, and it expires by generalization exactly as the record claims.
- M-0288 Deferential Spark — intensity fidelity: a self-dimming light; the bow is performed at the threshold, the apology is timestamped ahead of the release note it carries, and the record's own two outcomes (alive / decorative) are preserved as an unexplained variable.
- M-0289 Recital of Sufficiency — cadence fidelity: a closing voice, not a person; it repeats rather than argues, its instrument is the room's fatigue, and the octave drop is borrowed from the reviewing chair. Its intake testimony is one of the five Recognizable Phrases verbatim — the only five sentences it is ever recorded saying.
- M-0291 Witness Felt — textile/acoustic fidelity under the record's own "He": the felt is cut before the testimony exists, facts survive while frequencies are subtracted, and the compliment to the handling lands where a response to the testimony would be. Intake testimony is the fifth Recognizable Phrase verbatim.
- M-0292 Kind Overdraft — tender fidelity: a teller writing warmth at a window whose authority ends at the grate; sincerity is preserved as the debt's mechanism (the record's "not insincere" doctrine restated, not softened), and the interest lands on staff credibility per Debt Transfer. Intake testimony is the first Recognizable Phrase verbatim.
- M-0293 Carpet Jurisdiction — acoustic-spatial fidelity: pile-depth authority measured at the brass threshold strip; it certifies a bias and supplies acoustics — a residue bullet states plainly it has never issued a ruling of its own.
- M-0295 Sanctioned Quilt — coverage fidelity: a quilt assembled to a governing map; warmth constant, dispatch variable; seams triple-stitched where comfort meets liability, and it drapes only what has been approved for draping.
M-0284 restraint note (flagged jurisdiction)
M-0284 carries a consent-adjacent tag field
("consent", "social-inference") and is census-flagged
for jurisdiction preservation. The insert was bounded to
what the record's own prose claims: the murmur is a
sound — an atmosphere mistaken for permission, a habit
of logging "ambient consensus" in place of missing
explicit sign-offs, a distortion of absent objection
into retroactive assertion. The interiority dramatizes
only what the record already says the murmur DOES while
waiting: it persists underneath the agenda as a
speakerless register, it is captured in retrospect
("louder in hindsight" is the record's own line), it is
filed only where a signature is missing, and it leaves
no physical residue (the record's own Rubber Stamp
distinction).
Deliberately NOT dramatized: the murmur does not grant, withhold, adjudicate, or ratify consent; it has no authority over agreement and attends no decision — deployment logs place it at the filing, never at the moment of decision; no new consent mechanics were invented (it does not detect, verify, or certify real assent — its one testimony, "they did not say otherwise," reports an absence and is framed in the bullet as "a sentence that signs nothing"). Where the record asserts certification, the inserts keep the distortion on the record's side: the file insists the room agreed; the sound only ever testified that no one objected. Four residue bullets rather than five, per the M-0258 sparseness precedent — the record's doctrine is a single mechanic (absence logged as presence), and a fifth bullet would have had to invent a capability to earn its place.
What was deliberately left alone
- All existing prose, including definitional lines,
failure-signature clauses, causal anchoring, witness
function, distinction clauses and paragraphs, stat-block
fields and bullet lists, the records' closing
observations and kicker couplets, and the spec-sheets'
Classification/Posture/Habitat/Failure Modes/
Recognizable Phrases/Archive Note blocks — none
rewritten or "improved." M-0293's field-label variant
(
**Failure Signature**:/**Function**:/**Distinction**:— colon outside the bold) and M-0295's unboldedDistinction:are reproduced byte-identically. - All verse residue (Aphorisms, Haiku Log, Limerick Log),
including the JULES-POET digital-rain limerick groups,
their irregular stanza gaps (five-blank gaps before the
rain group on M-0285, M-0286, M-0288, M-0289, M-0292,
M-0295 — verified at shifted positions; no irregular
gaps on M-0284, M-0287, M-0291, M-0293, where the
limerick runs are uniform three-blank — the distinction
preserved, not normalized), their profanity (M-0285,
M-0286, M-0287, M-0289, M-0291, M-0293 limericks),
their missing-punctuation rain-group lines, and their
two-space CommonMark hard-break tails — reproduced
byte-identically. All tails in the band are exactly two
spaces; every verse line is tailed except each verse
section's final line and each file's last line. Noted
but not fixed per convention: M-0287 line 13 (the
[[lorelog/LLG-0398-CCO|LLG-0398-CCO]]causal-anchor paragraph) carries a pre-existing two-space tail — preserved. - The stub and reservation declarations — "is reserved for," "is held for," "pending-render" — kept verbatim. Interiority was added as each record's own account of what it does while waiting to become, not as a resolution of the pending state.
- No new
relations:edges and no new wikilinks. Inserts re-name existing counterparts in plain prose only (Rubber Stamp on M-0284; Favorable Beige on M-0285 — already wikilinked in that record's own Distinction; Apathetic Gray and Sanitized White on M-0286; Resurrection Node on M-0287; the Silent Patch on M-0288 — all already named in the records' own prose; the Feral Afghan on M-0295 — already named in the record's own Distinction). - Jurisdiction and containment: M-0284's consent-adjacent
tag field is untouched and un-generalized — no insert
uses
consent-loopvocabulary or asserts consent authority anywhere in the band; M-0293's jurisdiction language stays inside the record's own room-authority frame (it witnesses and certifies a bias; a residue bullet states it has never issued a ruling). - Mechanism/abstract records were kept non-animal per the census rows: the Murmur is a sound (register, playback, hindsight volume), the Quietus is a distributed document (folds, panels, stock), the Beige is a maintained surface (repainting, swatches, refresh logs), the Pocket is a cordoned zone (tape, perimeter, bounds), the Spark is a self-dimming light (capacity, threshold, volume), the Recital is a closing cadence (repetition, register, octave), the Felt is lining work under the record's own "He" (trays, nap, decibels), the Overdraft is a teller-window mechanism (grate, vault, receipts — its alt-text's own clerk), the Carpet is a furnished jurisdiction (pile, strip, acoustics), and the Quilt is an assembled coverage (squares, seams, map). None is given limbs, meals, or moods it does not already claim.
Verification performed
- Structural intent: each staged file is the original byte stream plus inserts only — verified by line-count reconciliation, blank-line census, trailing-whitespace census, heading-skeleton checks, sentinel greps, and position-level reads of the rain gaps and couplet boundaries. Caveat for the merge: the staging sandbox permitted only whole-file writes plus targeted edits (exec pipelines partially restricted — diff/shasum against originals unavailable); originals were transcribed from byte-accurate reads and verified post-write, but the coordinator should merge by alignment and run a real diff at transcription, per the slice's standing instruction. One transcription defect of slice-5/6's class recurred and was caught the same way: the first write of M-0287 dropped its pre-existing two-space tail on line 13 to a single space; the tail census flagged it (64 vs 65) and the staged file was corrected and re-verified.
- Line-count reconciliation: every staged file's
wc -lequals its original plus its inserted lines exactly (284: 207→216; 285: 171→181; 286: 163→173; 287: 173→183; 288: 164→174; 289: 219→231; 291: 211→223; 292: 199→211; 293: 150→160; 295: 160→170). Total: 105 inserted lines, 0 deletions. - Trailing-whitespace census:
\s+$match counts identical between originals and staged files on every file (284:86, 285:59, 286:59, 287:65 incl. the line-13 prose tail, 288:59, 289:59, 291:56, 292:51, 293:48, 295:56 — 598 total); all tails are exactly two spaces (a{3,}-space census found none); no inserted line carries a tail. - Blank-line census: every staged file's blank count equals its original +3 on the seven single-insert stubs and +4 on the three double-insert spec-sheets (284: 91→94; 285: 81→84; 286: 76→79; 287: 80→83; 288: 76→79; 289: 96→100; 291: 91→95; 292: 84→88; 293: 70→73; 295: 74→77). Position-level reads performed on all five-blank rain gaps: verified at five blanks on M-0285 (140–144), M-0286 (132–136), M-0288 (133–137), M-0289 (190–194), M-0292 (178–182), M-0295 (129–133); M-0293's rain-style limerick group correctly retains its original uniform three-blank separators (129–131) — no gap was normalized in either direction.
## Behavioral Residueappears exactly once per file, immediately before## Aphorisms, in all ten staged records;## Aphorismspositions verified shifted by the exact insert offset per record.[[-link inventory unchanged: 2 total across the band (M-0285 ×1 Distinction, M-0287 ×1 causal anchor), both pre-existing; zero added.- Heading skeletons verified identical to originals save
the single new section; the spec-sheets' Failure-Modes
###subheads and## Haikussubheadings unchanged. - Sentinel greps: all kicker couplets and closing
observations, distinction clauses, definitional
sentences, field labels (including M-0293's
colon-outside-bold variants and M-0295's plain
Distinction:), bold/italic markers (**Resurrection Node**,*Silent Patch*,*Rubber Stamp*,*Apathetic Gray*,*Sanitized White*,*Fluorescent Light Edict*,**only officially approved emotional distress**), em-dashes, and profanity present verbatim at their insert-shifted positions; curly-vs-straight apostrophe and quote usage preserved per line (curly-mark lines verified 38/38 present at shifted positions — M-0284 ×3, M-0285 ×2, M-0286 ×8, M-0287 ×2, M-0289 ×6 incl. the curly-pair “not ideal”/“sufficient for present purposes.”, M-0291 ×2, M-0292 ×4, M-0293 ×4, M-0295 ×7; M-0288's single match is an em-dash, not a curly mark; zero curly marks in inserted lines). - EOF: staged files end with the untailed final verse line as filed; the write tool does not append a terminal newline, so the trailing newline was included in the staged content — coordinator's diff should confirm the byte.
BORIS_BIN=~/.local/bin/boris ./bin/validate_graph.sh— run by coordinator on transcription; exact result line in the PR body.
Unresolved follow-up
- The stub tail's remaining un-retrofitted records are M-0290 Hover Parish (religion-adjacent, §7 priority #7) and the M-0296–M-0297 stubs plus tier-B neighbors M-0294, M-0298, M-0299 — the natural slice-8 boundary is small and may want to fold in the care-theatre cluster instead.
- The 'complete testimony' intake-citation phrasing now appears on all ten records of this slice as well, continuing the slice-2/3/4/5/6 pattern the merged changelogs already flagged as a maintainer-facing style question; left uniform pending that ruling. Three records (M-0289, M-0291, M-0292) answer with a Recognizable Phrase verbatim — deliberate, and noted alongside M-0278/M-0279's slogan-verbatim answers for the same ruling.
- M-0284's residue now asserts, in plain prose, that the murmur is never logged at a decision — only at the filing of a missing sign-off. If a later pass writes canon for how consent events are recorded, this bullet plus M-0243's and M-0256's merged murmur/velvet boundary bullets are the evidence trail to keep consistent: the Murmur (during→filed), the Velvet (after), Consent Murmur (the sound an absent sign-off makes in hindsight). None of the three claims authority over the act of agreement.
- M-0285's residue asserts the calm lake as the only illustration on file. If a later pass varies pamphlet editions, this bullet is the claim to retire.
- M-0293's residue asserts the carpet has never issued a ruling of its own — a deliberate boundary bullet for a record named Jurisdiction. If a later pass writes spatial-governance canon (Fluorescent Light Edict is the named counterpart), this claim should stay intact.
- M-0287's residue asserts pockets expire by generalization and never outgrow their first room. If the Resurrection Node record is ever authored (currently a named distinction, not a record), this boundary is the constraint it should meet.
