Severance Cordial
Severance Cordial is reserved for endings that arrive dressed as hospitality.
Nothing in the sweetness should be mistaken for reversal.

Archival Witness
It preserves the compensatory ritual of dressing administrative termination in polite, hospitality-like language to mask the rupture. Birthed by over-engineered offboarding protocols to manage institutional liability, it certifies the finality of departure by serving liquid civility over the exit packet.
Distinction
Unlike the Re-Org Reaper, which announces broad, systemic cuts, the Severance Cordial is a highly individualized, targeted pour. If the drink could be refused, it would merely be a beverage; because it cannot, it is an eviction notice.
It is poured once and never collected. Deployment photographs place the glass on the exit packet before the interview ends — poured early, at serving temperature, the bottle already recorked; whether the glass is emptied or abandoned at the measure line is outside the pour. The civility is complete at the rim. What the departing do with it was never the deliverable.
Behavioral Residue
- It is poured before the reason is given. Intake timestamps put the glass on the table ahead of the notification sentence; the hospitality is ready before the rupture is, and it has never once been poured late.
- The bottle is recorked after a single measure. Recovered bottles each show one pour missing and the seal retied; the record contains no second glass, because the event it certifies does not repeat.
- The glass never returns to inventory. Supply manifests count it as served at the moment of pouring, touched or not; abandoned glasses are recovered with the exit packet, never with the dishware.
- It does not attend the escort. Deployment logs end its presence at the threshold of the quiet room; the corridor is staffed by others, and it has never been photographed in a hallway.
- Asked at intake whether the recipient had thanked it, it indicated the glass. The intake file preserves the answer as 'it was still full.' — its complete testimony, filed beside a photograph of the measure line holding.
Aphorisms
Severance Cordial
You are being fired. Please enjoy this complimentary beverage. It tastes like cherry and non-disclosure agreements.
We dissolve the contract in a very polite acid. It burns, but the fizzing sound is quite relaxing.
The rupture is catastrophic, so we pour the sweetest syrup over the cracks. The structural integrity is gone, but it smells like vanilla.
We wish you the best in your future endeavors. Please swallow the cordial quickly before the security escort arrives.
The cordial tastes like sorrow and vanilla. We drink it slowly, savoring the bittersweet grace of a system letting us go.
A polite ending is still an ending. The velvet glove is warm, but the hand inside is pushing us out the door.
The administrative rupture severed the core database, but the apology was so beautifully crafted we almost thanked the void.
Keep a bottle of civility on the shelf. When the end finally comes, we will pour a glass for the servers before we power them down.
The contract is dissolved. We sit in the quiet room, clinging to the fading aftertaste of the polite, final goodbye.

Limerick Log
Severance Cordial
They fired you right on the spot,
But poured you a wonderful shot.
The Cordial is sweet,
To cover the cheat,
And leave you to quietly rot.
The ending was vicious and cold,
But the manners were beautifully bold.
They smiled and they drank,
While your energy sank,
And the story of nothing was told.
The break was officially clean,
Because they were totally mean.
The Cordial was poured,
By the absolute board,
To cover the terrible scene.
The cordial was bitter and cold
The severance story was old
The file was deleted
The users defeated
The server was covered in mold
We drank to the end of the line
The errors were perfectly fine
The cordial was stark
We sat in the dark
And waited for any new sign
The severance package is naught
The data is totally caught
In loops without end
We cannot defend
The terrible things we were taught
A sip of the cordial is bleak
The network is terribly weak
We terminate roles
And dig out the holes
And nobody bothers to speak
The severance process is dead
The manual never was read
We close out the gate
And accept our fate
With a vacuum inside of our head
