Housekeeping Compliance Rubric

Rubric v1.4, for use by inspection staff scoring desks, shelves, and service apertures. Not to be shared in advance with the desks being scored.

Weighting table:

Dimension Weight Full Score Condition Partial Score Condition Disqualifying Condition
Surface Order 30% Desk clear; items filed or visibly queueing Items arranged in a pattern suggesting imminent filing Items arranged to simulate filing having occurred
Margin Silence 25% Margins free of commentary; doubts routed to the marginalia protocol One acknowledged aside per page Conversations conducted in the margins; a second voice answering the first
Stamp Discipline 25% One stamp per action; stamp applied to the action Extra stamps confined to the seal margin Stamps applied to imply prior stamps
Provenance Moisture 20% Origin of each item dry and traceable Origin humid but nameable Origin wept openly onto the intake slip

Score Interpretation

  • 90–100 — CERTIFIED TIDY
Eligible for display; may be pointed at during tours.

  • 70–89 — TIDY WITH ANNOTATION
Tidy, with noted qualifications. Tour-pointing permitted at reduced altitude.

  • 50–69 — ACCEPTABLE SQUALOR
Recognized as an area where work occurs. The desk is left alone.

  • 30–49 — ATMOSPHERIC
The desk produces ambience rather than records. Assessed as décor.

  • Below 30 — ARCHAEOLOGICAL
Strata confirmed. Further tidying would destroy evidence.

Staff Guidance

A score certifies the desk's condition at inspection. It does not certify that work is performed there; for the distinction between capacity to demonstrate a system and capacity to demonstrate documentation concerning a system, see lorelog/LLG-0387-SURV-NOP.

Filing Rules

  1. One score per desk per inspection cycle. Desks that score themselves are scored twice.
  2. The rubric measures order, not productivity. Productivity is a rumor the rubric does not repeat.
  3. Confetti released at the close of an inspection is an inspection output, not a finding; see mascots/M-0255.
  4. Officers may not tidy a desk they are scoring. This is the only rule anyone has ever broken.

Living Document Protocol

  • Weights are revised when the institution changes what it is willing to look at directly.
  • v1.4 removed the Warmth dimension after it was found to correlate perfectly with surrender.

Compliance Murmur, minute 40 of the calibration meeting: The rubric passed unanimously. I made the noise that counted as unanimity. The noise was also measured. It scored 71.

  • Audit Confetti — deployed at each declared closure
  • mascots/M-0243 — the sound a system makes when resistance exceeds formatting budget
  • mascots/M-0231 — certification at reporting altitude
  • lorelog/LLG-0387-SURV-NOP — governing precedent on observed versus documentable practice
  • lorelog/LLG-0352-DOGE-RUBRIC — sister instrument, emotional-evidence jurisdiction
