Seal Weighting Rubric — Residual Surface Scoring v2.0
Residual Surface Scoring Rubric v2.0
For use by Verification Office staff when a mark of trust is presented for grading. Do not circulate to custodial desks in advance; desks prepare.
| Dimension | Weight | Full Score Condition | Partial Score Condition | Disqualifying Condition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Proof Basis | 35% | verification chain inspectable to origin | chain terminates in inherited basis | chain asserted, never produced; custodian points to another desk |
| Behavioral Pull | 25% | mark guides behavior because proof does | mark guides behavior while proof sleeps | mark is decorative; nothing downstream defers to it |
| Succession Depth | 25% | seal passed hand to hand with a custody log | current custodian inherited the desk, not the proof | seal found already present at handoff; no first holder on file |
| Removal Cost | 15% | withdrawal would govern something | withdrawal is governance-heavy | removal unthinkable; the question corrupts the form it is written on |
Score interpretation
-
90–100 — ACTIVE TRUST
Surface verified to origin. File normally; inspect on schedule anyway. -
70–89 — RESIDUAL TRUST OBJECT
Visible, behavior-shaping, semantically thinned. Most marks score here. This is the office's quiet finding. -
50–69 — INHERITED BASIS SURFACE
Still rendering from prior proof. Schedule a custody check before the next handoff, whether or not a handoff is expected. -
30–49 — CEREMONIAL CONTINUITY MARK
Removal is governance-heavy. The mark stays; the file notes why. -
Below 30 — VERIFICATION COLLAPSE
The mark functions. The basis cannot be asked, because there is no one left to ask it of.
Staff guidance on Verification Collapse
A collapse score is not a ruling that the mark is counterfeit, or that the office's own marks would grade higher.
It is a ruling that the proof chain ends inside the office doing the grading.
The desk files the score, files the surface's continuing effect, and does not collapse either record into the other. Graded outcomes feed the Trust Surface Inspection Log.
Kindy's Grading Note: I applied the rubric to my own countersignature as a calibration check. The form declined to return a number. I have filed the decline as a score of 70 and the afternoon as lost.
